The UK government has set a target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 which in now enshrined into law. This raises the ambition of the previous target of an 80% reduction and will require big changes in the way we use energy, as well as an accelerated take up of new technologies to support decarbonisation. Hydrogen Facility to Test Use in UK Homes
A hydrogen testing facility has been opened in Buxton, Derbyshire, to demonstrate whether hydrogen can be used in place of natural gas in millions of homes across the country. Critical safety tests will be conducted at the facility, the purpose of which is to establish that it is as safe as natural gas. The project is part of H21, a suite of gas industry projects designed to support conversion of the UK gas networks to carry 100% hydrogen. (more…)

EY Renewables Index Places China and United States in Top Positions
The latest EY Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index (RECAI) shows that China and the United States remain at the top of the ladder for their renewable investment and deployment opportunities. BEIS Consults on UK Emissions Trading System
The government has launched a consultation on its approach to carbon pricing once the UK leaves the European Union. The preferred option is a UK Emissions Trading System (ETS) that is linked to the EU ETS and closely mirrors it. (more…)

Government Data Shows an Increase in Renewables and a Decline in Emissions
Provisional 2018 statistics published by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) confirms that 2018 was a record year for renewable electricity generation. In addition, data showed that CO2 emissions from the energy sector have fallen by 59% since the base year of 1990. (more…)

UK Ranked Second for Action on Climate Change
Denmark, the UK, and Canada rank as the top three countries transforming their energy systems to combat climate change. This is according to the Energy Revolution Global Outlook Report, a study of 25 countries conducted by Imperial College and E4Tech. (more…)
